Our favorite walking tour app announced that it had been sold to Bose. The only good news about this announcement was that all audio tours were now free to download. Over breakfast one day we all downloaded three different walking tours. On this day we took the Historic Bank Tour in DTLA. The Detour app is/was location aware – so we started our tour and then paused halfway through so we could eat breakfast. Setting up the tour so we could all be synced posed some challenges. Gaia and Kate worked as a pair!
We walked by a rooming house where Charlie Chaplin lived for a time.

Then we stopped for breakfast at Blu Jam Cafe.
The tour took us to Biddy Mason Memorial Park, The Last Bookstore and Angel’s Flight too. Here are some more pictures from the walking tour.
After our walking tour we drove a short distance to the fabric district. I searched for fabric to make curtains, and came away with pillows for my patio furniture.
After grabbing a quick pick-me-up at Starbucks we drove west to Culver City to visit the Wende Museum.

” The mission of the Wende Museum is to preserve Cold War art, culture, and history from the Soviet Bloc countries, inspire a broad understanding of the period, and explore its enduring legacy. “
Do not miss this museum!
Our final stop was at Helm Bakery District in Culver City.
We popped into H.D. Buttercup to browse home goods, Father’s Office for a drink and Pasta Sisters for dinner. On the way home we discussed the history of Los Angeles retail – from Helms bakery delivery, milk delivery, The Broadway, Robinsons, Buffums, Fedco and Gemco.
